What is stormwater?

Stormwater is rain and other precipitation that cannot soak into the ground, it flows on the surface of our roads and other impervious surfaces. When stormwater flows downhill, it picks up pollutants we leave on the ground or in storm drains such as sediment, chemicals, oil, litter, and pet waste. Stormwater may also cause localized flooding or erosion problems in areas that have been developed beyond natural landscapes.
